What excuse will President Bush use now?
- Bob Novak’s column revealed that Valerie Plame Wilson as a CIA operative. President Bush’s response - “Revealing classified information is illegal, alerts our enemies, and endangers our country.”
- Karl Rove and Scooter Libby are highly publicized as targets in Patrick Fitzgerald’s investigation. Bush’s response - “If somebody committed a crime, they will no longer work in my administration.”
- Scooter Libby is indicted on five counts of perjury, obstruction of justice, and making false statements. Karl Rove and Dick Cheney are implicated in the Libby indictment. Bush’s response - Scooter Libby resigns, and Bush’s new modus operandi is it is an ongoing investigation and he will not make a comment.
- Scooter Libby reveals, via Patrick Fitzgerald, that Vice President Dick Cheney and other “superior” White House officials authorized him to release classified information. The purpose of the revelation was to bolster the Bush administration’s assertions of WMDs in Iraq and collusion between Iraq and Niger. Bush’s response to date - do nothing.
Exactly when does the president plan on honoring his ever-changing position? January 20, 2009?
