Bush participated in US attorney firing

Another good example of Bush restoring integrity to the White House.

From the New York Times:

The White House was deeply involved in the decision late last year to dismiss federal prosecutors, including some who had been criticized by Republican lawmakers, administration officials said Monday.

Last October, President Bush spoke with Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales to pass along concerns by Republicans that some prosecutors were not aggressively addressing voter fraud, the White House said Monday. Senator Pete V. Domenici, Republican of New Mexico, was among the politicians who complained directly to the president, according to an administration official.

The House will need to change to a six-day week to accommodate all the investigations that are underway or planned, and this one will take some folks down…well, it already has. Gonzales’ chief of staff Kyle Sampson, resigned yesterday. He was responsible for coordinating the terminations, resigned yesterday.

I can’t say whether Congress had inside info on Harriet Miers before this article was released, but at minimum they had good insight. Miers was working closely with Sampson. She’s obviously an eager beaver - and stupid - because she proposed firing all of the U.S. attorneys at once and replace the with attorneys suitable to the administration.

Late Update: I failed to mention this. This has to be a big deal because the White House is confirming all of this. After six years of disavowing any knowledge of sleaziness and remaining silent on Scooter Libby, it has to be substantial for the White House to open its kimono.
