GOP blocks Senate resolution for troop withdrawal
Republicans rejected a Democratic sponsored resolution that would require most U.S. troops to withdraw from Iraq by no later than March 31, 2008. The resolution required 60 votes to pass; however the vote was 50 to 48. One Republican, Sen. Gordon Smith of Oregon, voted for the resolution and two Democrats, Senators Mark Pryor (AK) and Ben Nelson (NE) voted against the resolution. And, of course Joe Lieberman, a Republican in disguise, voted against the resolution.
Well, I have two questions. Why did Chuck Hagel (R-NE) vote against the resolution and what’s up with the two turncoat Democrats?
I’m not familiar with the politics or voting records of the two Democratic senators, but would like to know more. If anybody can shed some light on Pryor and Nelson, I would appreciate the input.
