Lynne Cheney Not Senate Bound

Good. One less Cheney to have to deal with. Darth Vader is enough.

From Roll Call (sub. req.):

The Wyoming Republican Party Thursday evening released a final list of 31 individuals who had submitted applications to replace the late Sen. Craig Thomas (R) by the 5 p.m. Mountain Time deadline — and Lynne Cheney, wife of Vice President Cheney, was not among them.

The list appeared to offer few surprises, and is headed by known interested parties like Colin Simpson, the Majority Floor Leader of the Wyoming House of Representatives and the son of former Sen. Alan Simpson (R-Wyo.); just-resigned U.S. Attorney Matt Mead, the grandson of a former governor and Senator; and state Sen. John Barrasso.

BREAKING: Libby Denied Release Pending Bail

Judge Reggie B. Walton denied  I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby his request to be released from jail pending appeal. The Bureau of Prisons will determine Libby’s accommodations and he will report to prison in approximately six to eight weeks.

Different Look Today

Yes, the site looks different today. We’re working on implementing changes and unfortunately to do some of those changes, we have to turn on an unfinished product.

Depending on how things go today, this may remain in place ore we may revert to the familiar TPC style.

Although this is not the final product, I would appreciate any comments you may have on what you see thus far.

FBI Overstepped in Collecting Data - Again

Breaking! Breaking! Breaking! The FBI has discovered it is violating wiretapping and data collection laws. Sound familiar? At first, I thought the WaPo made a mistake and republished a previous article from March - I’m not kidding. Well it’s similar, you could almost take a March article (there were multiple) and just replace the numbers, although today they are substantially different.

In March, the FBI reported 22 violations of surveillance and data collection laws; yesterday that number changed to more than 1,000 violations after reviewing a mere 10 percent of the national security investigations. So, what will the number be in September?

Libby Sentencing Hearing Today

FYI. Judge Reggie Walton will decide today (late morning) whether Scooter Libby will go to jail in four to five weeks or if he will remain free on bail pending appeals.

Many are expecting Walton to deny bail during the appeal process.

Capitol Daybook

Never mind. This hearing was yesterday. I initially interpreted the schedule as continuing on to today.

An item of interest from the Capitol Daybook.
