Giuliani Only Spent 29 Hours at Ground Zero in Three Months

Somewhat buried in a New York Times piece today, we learn that Rudy spent a total of 29 hours, spanning three months, at Ground Zero after the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center. That’s quite a contradiction to the self-professed terrorist czar’s claim last week that he was “one of” the 9/11 World Trade Center Ground Zero weeks because he had been “at ground zero as often, if not more, than most of the workers.”

A complete record of Mr. Giuliani’s exposure to the site is not available for the chaotic six days after the attack, when he was a frequent visitor. But an exhaustively detailed account from his mayoral archive, revised after the events to account for last-minute changes on scheduled stops, does exist for the period of Sept. 17 to Dec. 16, 2001. It shows he was there for a total of 29 hours in those three months, often for short periods or to visit locations adjacent to the rubble. In that same period, many rescue and recovery workers put in daily 12-hour shifts.

Simple math and comparison. Rudy spent an average of 10 hours per month in contrast with the average worker dedicating 12 hours per day.

If the main stream media picks up on this and questions Rudy on the credibility of his assertions, Rudy can’t possibly dismiss it with a Scooter Libby like claim that he was so busy with all the important activities related to the attack that he made an honest mistake assessing his efforts at Ground Zero.

Rudy supporters, which I am not, should think real hard about his misstatements. Haven’t the lies generated from the Bush White House been enough for the next two hundred years or so? Did Rudy really believe no one would research his highly sensitive false claims?
