Al Gore and George Bush chumming it up
A moment too rare, ironic, and a host of other things to pass up. When I saw this on the front page of the Times, I blinked a couple times — wondering if I had entered into some kind of psychotic state.

First, let’s do the appropriate thing and give the proper credit. This is a Doug Mills/The New York Times photo.
I honestly cannot recall seeing or reading about these two rivals being together since the 2000 election. Take a close look at George Bush’s smile…some might refer to it as a grin that eats a disgusting substance, if you get my drift.
I wonder if Bush has read Al Gore’s recent book, Assault on Reason. The answer can probably be found in that smile.
Each year, Nobel Prize winners are invited to the White House for a presidential photo-op. I have no doubt that as Al Gore stood beside the president he felt the roles should be reversed. And I imagine George Bush would have rather had his picture taken with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad than with Al Gore on any day.
Priceless.
