All The Girls Love Alice*

Sir Elton John is throwing a party for his very good friend, Hillary Clinton. No media circus around that, with all the controversial things Elton John has said in the past? Hillary will not be repudiating and denouncing Sir Elton?

Dear xxxxx,

There is nothing I like better than throwing a party for a good friend. Will you come out to support my friend Hillary Clinton at a special, one-night-only solo concert in New York? I promise this will be one night that you won’t want to miss.

Sincerely,

Elton John

Elton John Party for Hillary Clinton

Don’t get me wrong, I think Elton John is a great person and a talented, successful artist and has made substantial contributions to society. I’ve been to many of his concerts and would be delighted to go to future events. But, Elton John does not represent the right-wing "value" voters, for numerous reasons. So why is this acceptable to the puritanical electorate and others are the anti-Christ?

*Lyrics from All the Girls Love Alice (1)

Raised to be a lady by the golden rule
Alice was the spawn of a public school
With a double barrel name in the back of her brain
And a simple case of Mummy-doesn’t-love-me blues

Reality it seems was just a dream
She couldn’t get it on with the boys on the scene
But what do you expect from a chick who’s just sixteen
And hey, hey, hey, you know what I mean

All the young girls love Alice
Tender young Alice they say
Come over and see me
Come over and please me
Alice it’s my turn today

All the young girls love Alice
Tender young Alice they say
If I give you my number
Will you promise to call me
Wait till my husband’s away

Poor little darling with a chip out of her heart
It’s like acting in a movie when you got the wrong part
Getting your kicks in another girl’s bed
And it was only last Tuesday they found you in the subway dead

And who could you call your friends down in Soho
One or two middle-aged dykes in a Go-Go
And what do you expect from a sixteen year old yo-yo
And hey, hey, hey, oh don’t you know

America focuses on very critical issue

Our great national political discourse.

The economy is tanking. We’re on the eve of the fifth anniversary of the Iraq war. George Bush demands the Fourth Amendment be dismissed so his major contributors, the telecom companies, can be given amnesty for their countless lawbreaking.

That’s just a few burning issues, but they are relatively nowhere in terms of what actually is being read and discussed. Instead, Barack Obama’s religion, and remarks made by his pastor are.

Blogrunner reports these are the top stories getting attention across the news media and blogs (as of 5:00 PM ET). Glad to see America is focused.

Cramer: Bear Stearns is not in trouble!!

Sage advice from CNBC’s Jim Cramer on Bear Stearns last week: “No! No! No! Bear Stearns is not in trouble.”

Uh-oh. I think Cramer was a tad off.

Transcript:

“Dear Jim: Should I be worried about Bear Stearns in terms of liquidity and get my money out of there? –Peter

Cramer says: “No! No! No! Bear Stearns is not in trouble. If anything, they’re more likely to be taken over. Don’t move your money from Bear.”

(Ed. Note: Had a bit of trouble getting this posted. Sorry for any inconveniences or inaccuracies in the interim.)

Market dips on open

The stock market reacted to overnight trading by opening with a drop of 180 - 190 points (DJIA), but has recalibrated as of now with the DJIA down 57.89 (-0.48%), the NASDAQ down 31.70 (-1.43%), and the S&P down 15.25 (-1.18%).

Although the economy keeps dropping substantially, President Bush said today his administration is “on top of the situation.”

Everybody should just go shopping, take a vacation, maybe buy a second home while you’re at the resort.

Barack Obama’s church issues statement

Barack Obama’s church issued a statement yesterday in response to the criticism levied on the Rev. Jeremiah Williams. The full statement is after the jump.

This graf will undoubtedly become central to the issue if the controversy lingers.

“The African American Church was born out of the crucible of slavery and the legacy of prophetic African American preachers since slavery has been and continues to heal broken marginalized victims of social and economic injustices. This is an attack on the legacy of the African American Church which led and continues to lead the fight for human rights in America and around the world.”

Fed Reacts to Save Markets, Global Markets Tumble

It’s going to be a rough ride when the market opens in the morning.

For the first time since the Great Depression, the federal government took control of a major financial institution, by backing JPMorgan’s $30 Billion purchase of Bear Stearns. That’s approximately $2.00 for each share of Bear Stearns.

In an another act of desperation, the central bank also dropped its rate a quarter of a point to 3.25 percent.

In another bold move, the Fed established a "lending program" to make money for the 20 largest investment banks. So much for the poorer, lest fortunate blokes.

But as the markets opened in Tokyo, they were not overly pleased with the work of our MBA President.

Major Asian stock markets fell sharply in early trading on Monday as pessimism continued to spread despite the Fed’s dramatic moves over the weekend, sending Tokyo’s benchmark index to a three-year low.

The markets responded negatively to the purchase of Bear Stearns over the weekend by JPMorgan Chase. The acquisition, backed by the Federal Reserve, underscored the severity of the credit crisis in the United States and the weakness of the American economy.

Yet we spend $12+ billion per month in Iraq, how much in Afghanistan??, and Cheney’s out window shopping for another war so maybe the price of gas at the pump will be $30/gallon. before he and George leave office. Yep, that’s about right; it puts filling the average car up somewhere near $500 a pop.
