It’s 3 AM in Bogota and the phone is ringing
It’s 3:00 AM and you’re confident staffers are safe and asleep. But there’s a phone in the Chappaqua House and it’s ringing. Something’s happening in the world. The Wall Street Journal needs your response to a story they are about to run.
Mark Penn, your chief strategist, has been caught in a meeting in Colombia. The Journal tells you Penn has a contract with the Colombian government. He’s helping them get congressional approval for the Colombian Trade Bill.
You know all the world’s leaders. You know the military. You told voters you’ve been tested and are ready to lead in a dangerous world. You rebuked NAFTA and the Colombian bill in your campaign. And excoriated Barack Obama when he said you previously supported it. The press has since proven you supported NAFTA but you still deny it.
Now, the man who wears many hats and you’ve also paid $10 million has delivered this shocking blow. What will you do when you answer the phone?
Nothing.
It’s 3:00 AM and Alvaro Uribe Velez’s phone is ringing. He’s the President of Colombia. The person on the phone tells President Velez that Mark Penn said meeting with his government was "an error in judgment."
What does President Velez do? He fires Mark Penn.
Pretty clever!
Are the people of Pa really that opposed to a black President??? I would rather have a President who is truthful, honest and has character than the daughter of their native son.
Do they really think she cares anything about Pa except getting their votes? How often does she visit “her realatives”? What did Bill do for Pa when he was Prez?
SHE (nor Obama) cannot do one damned thing about NAFTA, but the airheads probably think she can. Oh, she can create jobs——-McDonalds, Wendys, Wal-Mart. Jobs that pay barely enough to keep body & soul together. That is, if you don’t want to eat out, educate your children, take care of them when they need a doctor, wear cheap clothes, etc..
Yelp, she’s the one alright.

Thanks for the compliment.
I don’t know enough about Pa. to even comment on bias, but having a truthful president is indeed a minimum requirement, especially after Bush and Cheney. However, it is pretty clear Clinton has flunked that pre-req.
No, I personally don’t believe Clinton cares about people in Pa., per se. Votes, yes. People no.
Re: Bill. I respect Bill Clinton and thought he was a good president. However, I think his involvement in Hillary’s campaign has damaged his legacy in the short-term. But 15 years from now, that will be forgotten history. For example, I have to think for a moment just to try and remember who ran against Reagan in 1984.
Re: NAFTA. The president, whomever that may be, can potentially have a lot of influence over the issue, but in my warped way of thinking, that seems more of a congress-intensive matter. And that will make it more burdensome because of all the special interests. Those pols take a lot of money from various companies, and at the end of the day, $$$ still rule on Capitol Hill.
