Controversial Obama sign at SC church

If there was any doubt The Enlightenment has long since passed us, the Jonesville Church of God in Jonesville, S.C. may help remove that doubt.

The pastor of the church, Roger Byrd, wanted to inspire a little critical thinking in his congregation, therefore, after a "moment of prayer," Byrd put this message on the church’s bulletin board.

"Obama Osama
Humm
Are They Brothers?"

How much church members may actually reflect upon the pastor’s message cannot be determined, but they surely will not be able to avoid reading it. Neither will any of the town’s 922 residents that drive by it.

It is also worth noting the town’s population has been declining for years. Humm.

Pastor Byrd denies unequivocally that the message is racially or politically motivated. It would be hard to argue the message is not politically motivated by the mere fact that Barack Obama’s name is included, but Byrd assures it is not:

"It is absolutely not a racist sign or a political sign," Byrd said. "It’s only meant to encourage people to think about what they’re doing. (Obama) said he’s not (a Muslim), but that’s why I asked the question. I would put the same sign up if he were a white man.

"God loves us all, but what if we get someone in the White House who happened to be Muslim? I’m just trying to open people’s minds. . . .

"I’m not meaning to say that he has the same character as Osama, but it hit my mind that their names are so close. Maybe there’s some sort of kinship," he said."

Interestingly enough, not every right-wing conservative blogger supports Pastor Byrd’s thought provoking idea. At least two conservative bloggers do not.

This is just another case of “just don’t get it!” The sign has NOTHING TO DO WITH RACE or POLITICS. It has everything to do with RELIGION. The church is trying to get people in America to get their heads out of the sand and recognize a religious problem. I thought that was what churches were supposed to deal with.

Radical Islamists have declared war on America and the rest of the “Infidels” in the western part of this world. They have very plainly stated their intention is to kill us. They teach it in their schools where Obama attended. Obama refuses to renounce Farrakan and Wright who espouse the same hatred of America. Obama’s uncle is an active member of a Islamic tribe in Africa.

Doesn’t any of these facts make you stop and think mmmmmm. That is all that the good pastor of the church was trying to get you to do. Sure it was risky and drastic, but it got your attention. Now that you have been made aware of the problem, what are you going to do about it. Remember Nero, he fiddled while Rome burned. WAKE UP AMERICA BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    You said:

“It has everything to do with RELIGION.”

I don’t know what country you live in, but obviously you do not know anything about one of the most fundamental principles the United States was founded upon. Your narrow-minded, hypocritical, bigoted, argument is prohibited by Article VI of the United States Constitution

    Specifically, it states…

The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the members of the several state legislatures, and all executive and judicial officers, both of the United States and of the several states, shall be bound by oath or affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.

Your lame attempt to tie Barack Obama to Osama bin Laden is without merit, is patently false, and just downright stupid. You have no proof whatsoever to make that claim.

Why don’t you put your name on your comment next time and let readers do word-play with your name, just like you’re doing with Obama’s. You can then be the victim of bigoted character assassination, the very thing you are so pathetically trying to do to others.

Furthermore, Professor, what does Nero have to do with this? Please, enlighten us.

Grow up and go back to the sixth grade.

I have no patience with bigots.
