Palin Hired Lobbyist to Get Millions in Earmarks
John McCain has publicly stated his disapproval for earmarks, and if I recall correctly, McCain has also said he would offset his proposed taxcuts by eliminating earmark spending. It remains to be seen just how much confidence can be placed in McCain’s plans for earmarks; however he might want to clue his running mate in on his position.
Sarah Palin is all for earmarks — enough to hire a lobbyist to help her town gain funding while she was mayor.
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin employed a lobbying firm to secure almost $27 million in federal earmarks for a town of 6,700 residents while she was its mayor, according to an analysis by an independent government watchdog group.
There was $500,000 for a youth shelter, $1.9 million for a transportation hub, $900,000 for sewer repairs, and $15 million for a rail project — all intended to benefit Palin’s town, Wasilla, located about 45 miles north of Anchorage.
A $1.9 million transportation hub and $15 million for a rail project in a town with 6,700 residents? How many small town mayors are getting funding from the feds for projects like that?
