Gov. Palin’s Speech Tonight
Here are advance excerpts, sent by the McCain campaign, from Gov. Sarah Palin’s prepared remarks, which she will deliver at the Republican Party’s National Convention tonight (sometime after 10:00 PM ET).
On her experience as a public servant:
“I had the privilege of living most of my life in a small town. I was just your average hockey mom, and signed up for the PTA because I wanted to make my kids’ public education better. When I ran for city council, I didn’t need focus groups and voter profiles because I knew those voters, and knew their families, too. Before I became governor of the great state of Alaska, I was mayor of my hometown. And since our opponents in this presidential election seem to look down on that experience, let me explain to them what the job involves. I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a ‘community organizer,’ except that you have actual responsibilities.”
On why she is going to Washington, D.C.:
“I’m not a member of the permanent political establishment. And I’ve learned quickly, these past few days, that if you’re not a member in good standing of the Washington elite, then some in the media consider a candidate unqualified for that reason alone. But here’s a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I’m not going to Washington to seek their good opinion - I’m going to Washington to serve the people of this country.”
On energy policies that the McCain-Palin administration will implement:
“Our opponents say, again and again, that drilling will not solve all of America’s energy problems - as if we all didn’t know that already. But the fact that drilling won’t solve every problem is no excuse to do nothing at all. Starting in January, in a McCain-Palin administration, we’re going to lay more pipelines…build more nuclear plants…create jobs with clean coal…and move forward on solar, wind, geothermal, and other alternative sources. We need American energy resources, brought to you by American ingenuity, and produced by American workers.”
On John McCain:
“Here’s how I look at the choice Americans face in this election. In politics, there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers. And then there are those, like John McCain, who use their careers to promote change.”
Her speech was amazing…….she won the vote of a lot of moms in their mid thirties tonight! She showed a tough love for our country. The epitomy of a good mom and strong woman. Layed out quite eloquently the goals of the republican party and how we would achieve them, and ripped the egos of Biden and Obama to shreds!
i think it is a shame to be labeled “NOT A WHITE MALE” as Gov. Palin has been. it doesn’t take a genius to see the marketing angle that is being USED——-JUST AS SHE IS BEING USED A PUPPET, simply to place the thought in voters’ minds……………DO NOT VOTE FOR A BLACK MALE FOR PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!!!
Well Joye..how is Palin the epitomy of a good mom? You base that on what– her speech? Her introducing her family makes her a ‘great mom’? This is so riduculous. Maybe she really is a great mom..maybe. But, how would you know? She’s been on the scene for less than a week, did you follow her career in Alaska?
SHe laid out NO goals…other than the prepared comments by her handlers. She also mislead people by repeating she was against the bridge to no where..and she LOVED earmarks. Maybe you should check your facts before you go off on your new hero.
Lets look over the next few months. Ill bet you, you wont see her on any individual interviews with real reporters asking tough questions…
Well, I am pretty sure that we are all mothers. And as far as her speech lastnight, it was phenomenon, and truly amazing. I believe that she is a very strong person, and she would also be a good change for this country. People are so quick to find dirt on others, but can never applaud an achiever and their accomplishments, and they can never think about themselves before they can judge others.
Well, JP, I am not Joye but I have an opinion to your comments and make it with absolute certainty that many feel the same. There is a real possibility that she is a mong other things a terrific Mom. To achieve what she has while raising a family…being truly involved in their activities (PTA, hockey Mom,ect…) Leave the “just an introduction” to Obama. “and this is my wife Michelle…” who has done WHAT???? And what has he done???His career has consisted of 3 big years in the
senate 2 of which he has spent campaigning for president!
Everybody is welcome to comment here as long as the comments are civil and are not offensive. I have just removed several comments that were offensive, cruel, and most of all not welcome. For those that had their posts removed, you know who you are. If you continue to make offensive comments, I will ban you from the site.
thank you Political Chase for keeping this site civil. I for one, plan to continue watching the debates and continue making my comparisons between both Presidential running mates and vice-presidential running mates. I encourage all soon to be voters to do the same. So far, in comparing John McCain’s extensive political career, military service to his country and personal sacrifices with that of his running mate…there is no real comparison. I was equally amazed at Cindy McCain’s nearly 20 years of humanitarian service. Sarah Palin is a perfect V.P. match for McCain and has given me renewed optimisim toward reducing our dependance on foreign oil.
@ kpc
You’re welcome. Just keep researching your choices. It’s an important election — glad to see you’re trying to make an informed decision.
