Please read the John D. McDonald "Travis McGee" series for some chilling examples (e.g., "One Fearful Yellow Eye" and "The Green Ripper"). Has it been established conclusively that Dubya tortured animals as a child? The stories I've read leave a little room for doubt. But sociopaths, if nothing else, cover their tracks well -- so well that it can be years before their pathology is discovered, if ever. The thing is, a sociopathic personality lacks only one, relatively subtle, quality that is otherwise common to all people: they can't really comprehend that other people's pain or suffering are real -- are in any way comparable to their own. There are few means available to distinguish between a genuine reaction of sympathy/empathy and one based on careful mimicry of others. My gut says both George and Dick are socios. I thank the Gods that their era is passing. Don't exhale yet -- January 20th is still a couple of months away.
